STEPPING IT UP
June 28, 2010
To prepare for the end of the year MDA tournament. I would like us to start being more aggressive on the basepaths. The coaches will help the kids. I would like to see us looking to take extra bases. We have been a base to base team and I am now seeing other teams taking extra bases on us (and obviously keeping score). I don't, and will never care about the score in a regular season Pinto game. If other teams want to "keep score" we will be practicing being more aggressive and when the scores count, we will be ready!

PROUD MOMENT
June 3, 2010
There was a time in our game yesterday that made me very proud. Ethan was playing 2nd and Matthew was at short. There was a ground ball to Ethan with a runner on first. Ethan made a step towards 2nd base but instead tossed it to Matthew at second for the force. At that moment, I really felt that, yes, the kids do listen and understand what we are trying to accomplish! Great job!

MESSAGE FOR PARENTS
May 19, 2010
As my oldest daughter Mallorie just kissed the top of my head to tell me goodnight, it really hit me. She is going into High School next year! Parents, enjoy the short time you have with your kids. It REALLY goes by fast. Having four children we are running here and there every night it seems. In 10 short years or less, I am sure that Becky and I would do anything to have that (this) time back. Cherish the memories!

Thank You Parents!
May 17, 2010
I had an interesting talk with a grandparent of a player who opposed us on Saturday. He commented on how good we hit and asked what my secret was. I told him that I have great kids who listen, what to improve, and have fun playing. We started talking about how I pitch so much faster than other coaches. He stated that by throwing harder, the pitch is more straight and much better for the kids once they reach Mustang. I couldn't agree more. There will be times that the kids strike out this year. I'm not planning on changing my philosophy so that we can be the best Pinto team. I have seen many players who can hit the "slow pitch softball style" pitches in Pinto only to have to relearn how to hit when they go to the next level.
This man's son coaches and has taken a lot of heat from his parents because they felt the coaches were pitching too fast. I feel blessed to have parents who don't complain and understand what we are trying to accomplish at this level. Thank you.

ONLY TWO PRACTICES LEFT!
April 26, 2010
Every year about this time I always seem to feel that I wish we could of had some more practice time together. Every year at the first game, the opposing coach ALWAYS comments on how good we look and how well our team plays. I know you we will be ready and I know that we have gone over more than probably any other Pinto team out there. My main goal, like I keep saying, is to prepare you for the future. I feel that we have done that and we will continue to learn as the season goes on.

A LOT TO COVER...NOT MUCH TIME LEFT
April 21, 2010
To you realize that after tonights practice that we only have 3 more before our first game? Wow! During the next few days, I will be adding our schedule to the website along with some information about position responsibilities. There will probably be a link that you can download. Parents: please print it and go over it with your kids. I will send out an email about checking on the website.
Thanks to Coach Michelle for developing a schedule to hand out at practice tonight.

Baseball Season is Here
April 13, 2010
I spent this last weekend watching my older son Zach play in a baseball tournament. (I have the "reverse raccoon" tan to prove it) After a long cold winter, it is nice watching baseball again! Some of us have kids who love baseball and will do all they can to improve. Some of us have kids who like playing baseball but really don't care about improving. Some of us have both in our families. That's ok. Enjoy baseball together.

Have a Nice Spring Break
March 24, 2010
Try to play some catch or even a game with some friends or family. Always remember to ask your parent's permission first. "Coach Steve told me so" cannot be used as an excuse. Stay safe, I don't want anyone breaking an arm (or two) by falling out of a tree or breaking a leg trying to jump their bike over the neighbors cat!
LIFE LESSON: Always think about the possible outcomes before doing something. Ask yourself "what good can come out of this"? If you can't think of anything good except for "it would be cool", then don't do it.
Have a fun break and be ready to go on the 7th of April.

Field Reservations
March 1, 2010
I have made a request with the Winnebago Park District to reserve a field for our last few practices before the season starts. I never downloaded the cover page so I didn't realize until Coach Rob pointed out to me, that the fields are now $10.00 per session / per field. I have paid this up front so when practice starts, I will be requesting $10.00 per player for practice fees to cover the field and gym rental. This fee may vary if we end up sharing the gym and other factors. I will let you know.
